Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, for me summer was ALL about going to the lake. We’re a little too far from the coast to spend much time at an ocean beach, plus the Pacific Ocean never warms up enough to be comfortable. But, we have so many gorgeous lakes that there is definitely a way to get some serious swimming in during the summer. Also, my parents had a ski boat and were part of a show ski team, so we travelled a lot and spent A LOT of time being active in the water.
So for me, summer time swimming is more than just a bikini and a beach read. I look for suits that will stand up to swimming, skiing, innertubing, then off to a hike or a campsite. Plus, clothes and shoes to jump from activity to activity. You’re out in nature relaxing, after all, you want to be comfortable.
Seattleites get a reputation for being frumpy in all our outdoor gear, you know socks with sandals sort of thing, or wearing GoreTex to the opera. It doesn’t have to be that way, though! With a little thought about putting together a fun outfit, though, you can be prepared for a fun day at the lake while stilling looking dang cute! I have the purple tankini set below, and I love for looking fun and ruffly but still holding up to running around. This summer I’d like up the polka dot top to mix and match, and I’d pair it with these fun finds for a day on the lake:
My favorite part is the little camp badge! If you wanted to bring in a little bit more of this season’s crazy neon colors, I think both of the tops above would look super cute mixed and matched with these striped bottoms:How about you? What are you wearing this summer??
