Sunglasses in Seattle

You should all know that I was SO tempted to title this post Sunglassless in Seattle, but… I didn’t. Caught myself just in the nick of time. Moving On. . . Its summertime, and that means one glorious thing: Sunnies! There’s nothing better than getting in your car with the windows down, cranking some tunes, and rocking your favorite pair of sunglasses, am I right?

There a dirty secret us Seattleites keep, however, and its that we buy more sunglasses per capita than anyone in the US. This seems totally counterintuitive to most people. I mean, it rains a lot, so we should have less need for them, right? Well, thats just the problem? You wear a pair once, then the rain comes back and you either sit on them, lose them, or find something cuter. Its like the black hole for eyeglasses. I’m a perfect case in point for this! I’ve been through at least 4 pairs in the last two years alone.

First, my favorite pair of tortoise shell big glasses got lost when Erik crashed his bike in the woods. But, it was a small price to pay for his safety. Since I was away from home and backup pairs at the time, I picked up a pair of Foster Grant wayfarers at the local supermarket that I actually totally loved.

And then this happened *cue sad trombone*.

They only lasted about 6 weeks. Before you asked, I’ve superglued and gorilla glued them twice now but it just doesn’t have enough hold. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect new pair of wayfarers and haven’t had too much luck at my usual go-to stores (Target, TJ Maxx, etc. – you can start to see why I can’t buy anything too pricey). On my quest to find cheap glasses, I was excited to hear about GlassesUSA and their Virtual Mirror feature. Since I’d been having such a tough time liking anything I tried on its super fun to be able to play around digitally with the frame shapes.

Its pretty cool because you can either use your webcam to take a photo or upload your own (the trick is to find a photo where you’re not in sunglasses, ha!). I think their prices are totally reasonable especially for those of you with eyeglasses prescription.

GlassesUSA.com has offered all of our lovely readers an awesome discount, too!

Take 15% off storewide + get free shipping on your entire order (orders over $50). Use Code: FS15

ALSO, for those of you with prescription needs, Take 10% off any order of prescription glasses. Code: Blog10

I’m liking a few of the pairs I “tried on” and am still deciding if any of these are the next pair for me (Its a big decision as they’ll last through the end of this year, max! 😉

In the meantime, I picked up a super fun turqoise pair from the Fremont Farmers Market a couple weeks back. Rockin’ the turquoise!

Try out the mirror and tweet me your fave!
