One of a kind?

The other day I was getting caught up on online design magazines when something caught my eye.

On the cover of Covet Garden was a photo of a mid-century boudoir. With a, um, striking lamp. Striking not only that its a man in tights, but it also struct a chord of familiarity.

But then I got to browsing through our archives and I figured out that I actually had SEEN that lamp before (with its ballerina pair) at the Albany Flea! Lime green instead of pink, though.

And just to think, if I’d been more in tune with decor trends, I could have had that pair of lamps for myself. darn!

[Covet Garden is a great publication, by the way, despite my teasing on their cover story lamp choice. Its much like a shorter more direct version of Lonny with way less ads]

Ten on Ten May

Polaroid Style!

This morning started out gloomy (thus the photo of the beach on my desktop to cheer me up), but then the sun came gloriously shining through. Today was a long work day but I tried to sneak out a time or two to get some snaps of the outside world. Took a lunchtime walk to Trader Joe’s and snapped a photo of some lovely looking artichokes.

After work the sun was just starting to set, so D and I decided to grab a beer at our neighborhood pub to celebrate the springtime.

Great day to celebrate the springtime :)

weekend recap

hello!

Did everyone have a great weekend and great Mother’s Day? D and I got to spend the day with our respective important ladies (yes, that means D flew to New Jersey for the weekend!) and if I can speak for her too, it was really nice all around.

I had fully intended to take a bunch of photos this weekend, especially since Seattle was graced with some special guests (Tulane Architecture buddies), but alas the shutter didn’t get snapped once. woops.

So, in lieu of pictures of our actual weekend, I’ll leave you with a memento of what looks FAB these days (with winter still holding its chilly grasp in our parts):

A ride aboard a GLAM brass yacht. This paperweight is killer and I think one of you needs to go buy it before I am tempted to.

[ooh, just a reminder, y'all. Tomorrow is Ten on Ten. Check it out!]

Children’s Book Week!

Did you know that it’s Children’s book week this very week?  I have been stumbling across all kinds of fun illustrations around the web lately.  Some are those illustrations from your favorite childhood book that you just can’t forget.  Others are vintage beauties that I am now on the lookout for at the next estate sale we go to.

So, while I encourage you to dust off your favorite Kid’s book this weekend and reread…..

This book that I have to share with you is one to love.  Now, neither B nor I had this book as a kid.  I don’t really know where we learned about it either.  Probably a blog a long time ago.  But, when B first heard of the Space Alphabet by Irene Zacks, she was drooling over the few images we could find.  That B loves space, I tell you.  And planets.  :-)

Birthday season came and went without me finding a copy on the internet or in any used book store I could find.

But then, with Christmas coming, an internet search turned up one old library copy of this delight, and I Santa snatched it up.

It is a very happy addition to our house, with fun illustrations and since it was published in 1964, fun facts about space from that time period .

{and ps, if you ever see this book out there, I would advise purchasing immediately!}

We have tons of kid’s books around our house.  I have a slight obsession for wacky stories, great illustrations, and colorful hardcovers.   We just might continue showing y’all!   What’s your favorite Children’s book in your library?
