Wayyyyy back in the day ( Easter of 2004 to be exact) B saw her first Broadway show in New York.  She had never been to New York, you see, and I was going home to NJ for the holiday.  I invited her along so I could play tour guide she could see the great City.  And, because it was Easter, we saw a show.  This became a family tradition when my sister and I got older… the Easter Sunday matinee.

We saw Wicked, which had just opened a few months before in the Gershwin and still had its original cast with Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda the good witch.

The musical is the story of the Wicked Witch of the West  – Elphaba — and how she becomes that person in the Wizard of Oz.  The music, by Stephen Schwartz, is incredible.   Immediately after seeing the musical, the soundtrack was purchased and played constantly.

This show remains one of my personal favorites and was the perfect introduction to Broadway for B.

In fact, we both loved it so much that when B heard it was coming to Seattle, she bought tickets as soon as they went on sale.   thank goodness, rumor has it that it is sold out now.

And, I enjoyed it just as much the second time.  Only now I can sing along, every word.  : )

Why am I posting about my love of musicals?  To show you these little pictures:

  1. It’s so worth going to over and over. I too saw the original cast right when it opened. I didn’t know how special that was until a few months later.
