sea-versary

…as of tomorrow… it will be two years ago  i boarded a plane for seattle.  It seems like yesterday most of the time.   but, wowzers, two years… That is such a long time.

When I graduated, I really thought I was picking a two year place on a map.  I like travelling and exploring far too much to stay put.  Plus, what was the chance I would get a job I would want for more then that amount of time?

I was completely wrong.  (that never happens! imagine that!)

I like it –  no actually really really like it.  So much I am excited to stay, work, buy a house, have amazing friends, and play here for a bit longer.

As I sit here and remember all I have done in two years, all I can really think about is how much more I have left to do.  Although its been two years, I realize how much I really don’t know about my city, my place.

To start, I have wanted to go to the San Juans since I moved.  This post is being written today because tomorrow, on my sea-versary, that trip is happening.  WooHOO!  Me plus six friends are going up there to go kayaking for four days.  We have a guide and get to camp on remote parts of the islands every night.  Hopefully we will see lots of orcas, porpoises, humpbacks, seals, maybe a puffin.   (this makes me think of another adventurous vacay where I was excited about obsessed with a wild animal sighting, story for another time.)    I am ready to go with some new fast-dry shirts, cute new teva kayaking shoes, nutella and pretzels for snacking, a special waterproof camera bag so I can show you all my pictures when I get back, and most importantly, some new small board games (reviews will follow next week).  Plus, I get to kayak with B…. which usually means LOTS of splashing each other!

woooHOO!

tons of seattle love,

d

before and after for today

before table

after table

Isn’t this lil table super?

It’s a before and after by B and I am quite proud of her terrific grouting job!

The table was found at an estate sale, actually originally with this gross piece of velvet on the top.  I think that got removed in the car and dropped in the garbage can before the table ever even made it down to our workshop….

way to go B!   I cannot wait for the house to be populated with all our other things so this cute table doesn’t get lonely!  (excuse the dropcloth and blue tape you see… paint colors will be revealed at a later date…)

mint museum of craft

I wanted to get around to finally sharing a couple of pieces I loved when visiting the Mint Museum of Craft Design on my February trip to Charlotte, NC. They have a portion of their permanent collection dedicated to jewelry design and I LOVE LOVE both these pieces.

There was also a BEAUTIFUL exhibit on contemporary Ceramics in Israel going on. Amazing sculptures and utilitarian objects in simple, earthy materials. Gorgeous!

albany flea

A couple of weekends ago, I took jaunt to upstate New York to visit my sailor-man. He’s living in a town called Clifton Park, NY for the next 6 months while he finishes training. Although I’m going to miss visiting him in Charleston (I do SO love the charm of the south), I think the summertime temperatures will be a little more enjoyable upstate. I squeezed in a short trip before closing on the house,  but we were able to do a little bit of exploring. We spent a better part of Saturday in Saratoga Springs which was quite charming. We had a picnic lunch in a great little park and spied on all the kiddos chasing bubbles around, brides posing for pictures, and baby ducks getting fed.

Sunday we drove down to Albany to visit the very first day of the Albany Flea. Located at a great architectural salvage store, the flea seems to up and running and off to a great start. If you live in the area, go check it out. Also, they are still looking for vendors, so if you have wares to vend. . . give ‘em a shout.

Here are some pics of the day. I picked up a vintage clock with turquoise numbers (typical, I know) that will probably find a cute nook at the new house.

. . . and the find of the day. Pair of ceramic ballerina (male AND female) lamps in lime green. If only I lived closer, haha

happy happy

Today marks several reasons to be happy.

1.  happy friday!

2.  happy solstice/midsummer!

3. happy father’s day!

You will hear about our weekend –  and the thought that we can cram hours and hours of activity in a very small timeframe – later.

But for today both of us would like to focus on point number three.

We are completely blessed to have world’s most awesome dads.  Wanna see?
